Advances and lessons learnt from Beijing analyzed at the CSW
Beijing Conference in 1995

 


Last year the international community celebrated the 15 anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, adopted at the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995, remains the global agenda for women’s human rights, gender equality and the empowerment of women. Five years later, in 2000, the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly in June 2000, Governments agreed on further actions to accelerate implementation of the Platform for Action and to ensure that commitments for gender equality, development and peace are fully realized. 


To address advances and progresses done in the last 15 years, the panel "Linkages between implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action and the achievement of the MDGs" met at the CSW to discuss future challenges.

Ten days have been needed to publish the agreed conclusions of the 55th edition of the CSW. The Commission, ended last 4th March held the last session on 14th March after intense negotiations.
